Overflash: Winning the
Lightning Lottery

is Jay Gerbrandt's
first book and memoir

About the Book

On January 5, 2024, a seemingly routine drive home changed everything when Jay Gerbrandt's car was struck by lightning. In that moment, he lost control of his body and his vehicle, crashing into a parked car and altering the course of his life forever.

What followed was thirteen months of medical confusion, professional skepticism, and personal abandonment as Jay struggled to make sense of what happened to him. It wasn't until he noticed the telltale "arborescent" rash pattern—a pathognomonic sign of lightning strike—that the pieces began to fall into place.

Overflash is a gripping account of survival against impossible odds and a deeply personal journey through trauma, healing, and the quest for validation in a system that repeatedly fails those with invisible injuries.

"As my bumper made contact, I was certainly dead: my death was not just immediate but inevitable, based on what I could see coming toward me."

About the Author

Jay currently divides his time between writing, research at the Squirrel Ridge Observatory Centre, and his ongoing entrepreneurial pursuits.
